വാഷിങ്‌ടൺ : ബഹിരാകാശ യാത്രികൻ തോമസ് കെൻ മാറ്റിങ്ലി (87) അന്തരിച്ചു. നാസയുടെ ചാന്ദ്രദൗത്യമായ അപ്പോളോ 13ലെ യാത്രികരെ സുരക്ഷിതമായി ഭൂമിയിലെത്തിക്കാൻ സഹായിച്ചതിൽ പ്രധാനിയായിരുന്നു കെൻ മാറ്റിങ്-ലി.
വിർജീനയയിലെ അർലിങ്ടണിൽ ഒക്‌ടോബർ 31നായിരുന്നു മരണമെന്ന് നാസ ട്വീറ്റിൽ പറഞ്ഞു. നാവികസേനയിൽ പെെലറ്റായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം 1966ലാണ് നാസയിൽ ചേർന്നത്.

ചാന്ദ്രയാത്രികർക്ക് ധരിക്കാനുള്ള സ്‌പെയ്‌സ് സ്യൂട്ടും ബാക്ക്‌പാക്കും വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിൽ നിർണായക പങ്ക് വഹിച്ചത് കെൻ മാറ്റിങ്-ലി ആയിരുന്നു. നാസയുടെ ചാന്ദ്രദൗത്യത്തിന് തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട 19 പേരിൽ ഒരാളാണ്.
